Neighbor Disputes

Representing homeowners and property owners in neighbor disputes

For years, representing homeowners and property owners in neighbor disputes has been a significant part of my practice.

Neighbor disputes can be stressful, time-consuming, and disruptive. Unlike many other types of disputes, the parties often continue living near one another long after the dispute is resolved. As a result, the goal is not simply to address the immediate legal issue, but also to consider the practical realities that may exist after the case is over.

I represent homeowners and property owners in a wide variety of neighbor disputes throughout California, including:

  • Trees
  • Fences
  • Shared driveways
  • Property line and boundary disputes
  • Easements and access rights
  • Encroachments
  • Retaining walls
  • Noise complaints
  • Views and related property issues

Every dispute is different. Some disputes can be resolved through communication, negotiation, or mediation. Others require litigation. Determining the appropriate course of action depends on the specific facts, the goals of the parties involved, and the practical realities of the situation.

When the dispute is over, it is the clients, not the lawyers, who must live with the outcome. Because clients often continue living near one another long after a case has concluded, that reality is an important consideration when evaluating potential solutions and litigation strategies.
