About Jack M. LaPedis

Jack-La-Pedis

I represent homeowners, property owners, contractors, business owners, and real estate professionals in neighbor disputes, real estate disputes, small business disputes, and the defense of financial elder abuse claims.

For more than 30 years, I have helped clients navigate difficult situations and make informed decisions when the stakes matter.

I did not grow up planning to become a lawyer. Once I became one, however, I discovered what I enjoyed most: helping people navigate difficult situations and identify practical solutions to complex problems. Many clients come to me focused on a particular tactic, such as sending a demand letter, filing a lawsuit, or taking some other action. One of the first questions I ask is what they are ultimately trying to accomplish. Before deciding how to get somewhere, it helps to know where you are trying to go.

You are hiring me for advice. You are not hiring me to make decisions for you. My role is to explain the available options, identify the risks and benefits of each, and help you make informed decisions. Part of that job is identifying the risks and potential consequences of the available options. As I sometimes tell clients, “You do not hire a lawyer to tell you everything that can go right.”

Litigation can be expensive, time-consuming, and disruptive. When a practical solution exists, it should be explored. At the same time, meaningful settlement discussions often occur only when both sides are prepared for the possibility that a dispute may not settle.

When a case is over, it is the clients, not the lawyers, who must live with the outcome.

My interest in neighbor disputes is not purely professional. I have experienced neighbor disputes involving my own property and understand firsthand how disruptive those conflicts can become. Neighbor disputes are different from many other disputes because the parties often continue living near one another long after the dispute is resolved. That reality frequently influences the advice I provide and the strategies I recommend.

In 2017, after more than two decades of practice with other firms, I opened the Law Offices of Jack M. LaPedis. Today, my practice focuses on neighbor disputes, real estate disputes, small business disputes, and the defense of financial elder abuse claims.
